Overview

Siding & Cladding in Red Deer & Central Alberta

Your siding is the first thing Alberta's weather attacks and the first thing every neighbour notices. PJM installs James Hardie fibre cement, LP SmartSide, and steel siding with inspected workmanship across Red Deer and Central Alberta — and the price we quote is the price you pay, unless you change the scope.

Central Alberta's hail corridor, hard freeze-thaw cycles, intense UV, and heavy snow loads demand siding that is engineered for the conditions — not just imported and slapped up. We work with James Hardie's HZ5 climate-specific formulation, LP SmartSide's zinc-borate-treated engineered wood, and commercial-grade steel cladding so that every home, whether it's a new build in a Red Deer subdivision or a high-value lakefront property on Sylvan Lake or Gull Lake, gets a system that holds its colour, keeps water out, and lasts.

Products we install

Every product we install is matched to Alberta's climate and your home — the look you want, the exposure it faces, and how long you want it to last. We walk you through the trade-offs so you can choose with confidence, then install each one to manufacturer spec so the warranty actually holds.

James Hardie Fibre Cement

James Hardie's HZ5 formulation is engineered specifically for climates with freeze-thaw cycles, heavy snow, and wide temperature swings — exactly what Central Alberta delivers. It is non-combustible, pest- and rot-resistant, and available with ColorPlus® Technology, a factory-baked finish that carries a 15-year limited warranty against fade, peel, and cracking. The substrate itself carries a 30-year non-prorated limited product warranty. For lakefront homes and luxury builds where long-term appearance matters as much as performance, Hardie is our most-recommended product.

LP SmartSide Engineered Wood

LP SmartSide is the go-to for builders and homeowners who want the authentic wood look with engineered durability. Treated with waxes, resins, and zinc borate, it resists fungal decay and termites without sacrificing workability on site — which keeps new-build schedules tight. The 5/50 Limited Warranty covers full labour and material for the first five years, then prorated material coverage to 50 years. Importantly for Alberta, it covers hail damage up to 1.75 inches in diameter on a properly installed and maintained installation. The warranty is transferable to subsequent owners, which adds resale value.

Steel Siding & Cladding

Steel siding offers maximum impact resistance, is non-combustible, and carries long-life factory finishes that hold up against UV and Alberta's freeze-thaw extremes with virtually no maintenance. It is a strong choice for modern architectural profiles, commercial-adjacent new builds, and acreage or lakefront properties where a sleek, durable exterior is the priority. We install steel cladding as full-wall systems or as accent features alongside fibre cement or engineered wood.

What's Included

What you get

Full Material Supply & Installation

We supply and install the siding system from substrate to finish coat — James Hardie, LP SmartSide, or steel — with every board, panel, and fastener specified to the manufacturer's installation requirements.

Trim, Corners & Mouldings

Matched trim, corner boards, j-channels, and window/door surrounds that create the clean, finished profile a quality exterior demands. These are the details that separate an installation that looks good on day one from one that still looks good in year fifteen.

Moisture Barrier & Flashing Detailing

Proper weather-resistive barrier, window and door flashing, and penetration sealing are non-negotiable in Alberta's climate. Every installation includes the moisture management detailing that keeps water out of your wall assembly — the hidden work that protects your investment.

Starter Strip & Ventilation Detailing

Correct starter strip height, soffit ventilation coordination, and any required drainage plane spacing are included in every scope — because the way the system starts determines how well it performs for decades.

Site Cleanup & Final Inspection

Every PJM job is inspected before we consider it done. We leave the site clean and walk through the finished work with you so you can see exactly what was installed and how it was detailed.

How It Works

Our process

From the first call to the final inspection, here's exactly how your project runs — clear steps, firm dates, and one accountable crew from start to finish.
  1. 1

    Free Consult & Estimate

Reach out by phone or the contact form and tell us about your project — new build, renovation, storm damage, or full re-side. We discuss your home, your preferred materials, and your timeline, then provide a written estimate. The quoted price does not change unless you change the scope.

  2. 2

    Site Meeting

For most siding projects we schedule a site visit to measure, assess the existing substrate, identify any moisture or structural concerns, and confirm the scope. Builders working with us on new construction can coordinate this around the build schedule — we work to your timeline.

  3. 3

    Material & Colour Selection

We guide you through the product options — James Hardie profiles and ColorPlus colours, LP SmartSide styles, or steel panel systems — and help you select a combination that suits your home's architecture, your neighbourhood, and your long-term goals. Builders can lock in a standard specification for a subdivision run or customise per lot.

  4. 4

    Scheduled Installation

We confirm an install date that works for both schedules, show up on time, and work cleanly and efficiently through to completion. Every job is inspected — by us — before we call it done. You get a finished exterior you can stand behind, and so do we.

Common Questions

Siding & Cladding FAQ

What siding holds up best in Alberta's climate?

Central Alberta is genuinely tough on exteriors — hail corridor, hard freeze-thaw cycles, extreme UV, and wet spring conditions. James Hardie fibre cement in the HZ5 formulation is engineered specifically for these conditions: non-combustible, pest- and rot-resistant, and available with a factory-baked ColorPlus finish that will not fade or peel. LP SmartSide is a strong engineered-wood option with zinc-borate treatment for fungal resistance and manufacturer coverage for hail up to 1.75 inches. Steel siding is virtually maintenance-free and handles hail and wind exceptionally well. The best choice depends on your home, your aesthetic goals, and how long you plan to hold the property — we help you decide during the estimate.

What is the difference between James Hardie, LP SmartSide, and steel siding?

James Hardie fibre cement is a non-combustible, inorganic product — it will not rot, swell, or be eaten by insects, and it carries a 30-year non-prorated limited product warranty plus a 15-year ColorPlus finish warranty. LP SmartSide is a treated engineered wood that machines and installs like wood but resists decay and fungal growth; its 5/50 Limited Warranty includes labour for the first five years and covers hail damage up to 1.75 inches. Steel siding is the toughest surface for impact and wind, requires the least ongoing maintenance, and is non-combustible. All three are solid long-term choices for Alberta — the right one for your project depends on your priorities.

Do you work with new-home builders?

Yes, and it's a significant part of what we do. We understand that a builder's schedule is the job — if exterior finishing is delayed, every trade behind us is delayed. We show up on time, work to spec, and communicate clearly throughout. We can price a subdivision run to a standard specification or customise per lot. See our builders page for how we partner with new-home builders, or reach out to discuss your upcoming projects.

Will my quoted price change?

No. The price we quote is the price you pay — unless you change the scope of work during the project. We do not add costs for things we discover on the job that should have been included in the original scope. That commitment is backed by 20 years in business and an A+ BBB rating.

Is your siding work warrantied?

Yes. Every installation is covered by the manufacturer's product warranty — 30-year non-prorated for James Hardie substrate, 15-year for the ColorPlus finish, 5/50 for LP SmartSide — plus our workmanship warranty. Every job is also inspected before we close it out, which means warranty claims are rare because the installation is done right the first time.

What colour and profile options are available?

James Hardie offers a wide range of profiles — lap, panel, board and batten, shingle — and the ColorPlus palette covers everything from classic whites and greiges to deep navies and charcoals. LP SmartSide is available in lap, panel, and trim profiles and can be factory-primed for custom paint or ordered in pre-finished options. Steel comes in a range of panel profiles and a broad colour selection. We walk you through the options during your estimate and can order samples to see against your home.

Does siding installation mean we have to move out?

No. Exterior siding is installed entirely from outside the building — you do not need to vacate or close off rooms during the work. We work from ladders and scaffolding and keep the site clean and safe throughout. Most residential re-sides and new-build finishes are completed in a single scheduled block, so the disruption is contained and predictable, and we walk the finished work with you before we close out the job.

Do you install siding on lake and acreage properties?

Absolutely. Lakefront and acreage homes in the Sylvan Lake, Gull Lake, and Buffalo Lake areas are a regular part of our work. These properties often have specific design goals — a premium finish that holds up in a high-UV, sometimes high-moisture lakefront environment — and we bring the same inspected workmanship we deliver in every Red Deer subdivision.
